Pocky

Pocky is a classic popular snack in Japan since 1966. It’s a very thin biscuit stick covered with chocolate. There is a description on the box, that says “chocolate cream covered biscuit sticks”. Yeah, I say that’s basically right. The “cream” stays solid as long as you store it in cool temperature.

The top end is bare, so it’s easy to pick up, hold and bite it. Its maker Glico has always released so many different versions of it. Of course other companies have copied this idea and today so many imitations exist, but THIS IS the original to the best of my knowledge.

Pocky Trivia

Why did they name it “Pocky”?

It was named after the sound effect which expresses the sound of something thin that breaks in Japanese “Pocki(ポキ)”. Listen to the sound when you eat a Pocky. Does it sound that way to you??

Who is the guy on the box?

This is the Glico’s logo also known as a “Goal In Mark(ゴールインマーク)” in Japan. It was born in 1921, designed by the founder of Glico. According to Glico’s official website, the idea came from kids running. He seemed to think an image like a runner that symbolize human health is perfect for the food company logo.

Kasane Matcha Pocky (Double Matcha Pocky) Review

Kasane Double Matcha Pocky

This is “Kasane Matcha(かさね抹茶) Pocky” that is imported from Japan. The box is fancy and bigger.

The word “Kasane” in this situation means “piled up”, “sumed up” or “layered”. So, if I translate this name, it would mean “Double Matcha Pocky”.

You can see that the base biscuit is also green! The box says “2 tastes of Matcha, umami and shibumi(旨みと渋みの二種の抹茶)” And the red square says “Uji(宇治) Matcha(抹茶)”. Uji-City is known as the producing area of Matcha.

Counting Kasane Double Matcha Pocky

*It’s a little bit bigger than the picture on the side of the box.

Good Points:
Its Matcha Green Tea flavor is very RICH and I highly recommend this item for Matcha lovers. I’m satisfied with only 5 sticks. There are 2 bags in the box, so you can easily keep 1 bag fresh after you open the first. Calories per stick are only 10.9 cal.

Bad Points:
I bet some people will find that it tastes BITTER. It’s hard to find it. It melts and can stick together on a summer day.
